About your Louisville midwife

Hi, I'm Taylor Dawn Olson

90+ births attended In birth work since 2020

I'm a Louisville midwife caring for families who choose homebirth. I began working in the birth community in 2020, when I studied with the Global Organization of Midwives (GoMidwife) to become a Certified Birth Assistant. Since then I've attended more than 90 births as a doula, birth assistant, student midwife, and midwife, in hospitals, birth centers, and homes.

Along the way, I completed an apprenticeship on the Kentucky–Tennessee border under a qualified preceptor, who trained me and gave me experience serving many families in both routine and emergency situations. Some of my favorite experiences have been caring for Amish families out in the country, helping mamas through their first natural birth, delivering babies who arrived during thunderstorms, helping dads catch their babies while we made sure all was well, assisting with a set of twins, and supporting many other more complex births.

I'm a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), credentialed through the North American Registry of Midwives. I'm licensed to practice midwifery in both Kentucky, as a Licensed Certified Professional Midwife (LCPM), and Tennessee, and I'm a Certified Birth Assistant (CBA). I keep my CPR/BLS and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications current, so I'm trained to respond to emergencies for both mother and baby.

I believe in a holistic, natural approach to caring for mothers and babies, and I also know there are times when advanced medical care is the right call. I have a special heart for families facing more complex circumstances, including multiples, breech, VBAC, preterm birth, expected neonatal disabilities, miscarriage, and stillbirth, whether that means caring for them while at home, educating them, or supporting them alongside their medical team.

I value the triune nature of birth: the family unit of mother, father, and baby, and the birth team of God, family, and medical staff.

Values

Design

Women were built to carry and birth their babies. It's a natural process.

Informed choice

You get the evidence, the options, and the time to decide. Your body, your baby, your call.

Continuity

The midwife at your first visit is the one at your birth and your six-week checkup.

Patience with the process

Birth is given room to unfold, with careful watching and a clear plan if help is needed.
